10 DAY/9 NIGHT HUT TRIP
What to [actually] pack for the Walker’s haute route
Gear
25-35L Daypack - I own this Osprey 28L, this REI 32L and this Osprey 36L - I also like the Patagonia Nine Trails but they seem to be unavailable as I write this.
Garmin InReach Mini + subscription
Garmin Fēnix 6S Pro Watch (updated linked)

Hat (for sun protection)
camp kitchen & food
Miir Thermos / coffee cup (take a coffee to go or an alpine tea)
Nalgene 16 oz for Nuun Tablets and Protein Powder Packets
Osprey Hydraulics Reservoir - 2 Liters
SteriPen - optional, you can opt to purchase water when potable water is not available.
toiletries & misc
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Deodorant
Shampoo and Conditioner (from home in these tubes)
Body wash
Vasalene Lip chap (I live and die by these)
electronics
iPhone XS (I now use the 13Pro)
AirPod Pros / headphones
External Battery pack
Charge Cables + adaptor
Fujifilm X100V - this is SUCH a great little camera
if staying in huts
Pillowcase (if your meat sack does not have one)
Eye cover
Pyjamas - it will be warmer than you think in the huts. A set of clean, thin, lightweight clothing is perfect.
What NOT to pack (aka my actual packing list for this trip)
I made the mistake of packing for a sprint and running a marathon this time. The individual days were not anything I had not dealt with, but stacking them back to back for ten days - a lot of mistakes were made. I was carrying over 40lbs for the duration of this hike when, from conversations on the trail, the average is about 10-15lbs. So this is more of a how-not to guide of packing.

The North Face - 50L Backpack (there is no way I could, in good faith, recommend the backpack that I bought. It was a replacement for another TNF backpack that had fallen apart after less than one season and Mike and I made jokes every morning about how if (when) the backpack I bought broke we would leave the trail. It was such poor craftsmanship I could never, ever, endorse it in good conscience) So instead I linked a similar size backpack that I do recommend.
